Custom Made, Solid Wood Drawer Boxes

Dovetail drawers require a different type of construction than standard kitchen drawers, and are usually regarded as higher quality drawer option for homeowners. The difference between dovetail drawers and other, more traditionally constructed drawers, lies within the type of joint used in dovetail drawers. The type of joint constructed for dovetail drawers is known as a ‘locking joint’. The dovetail ‘locking joint’ is constructed from wedge-shaped channels cut into the wood, that interlock with one another from either side of the drawer, creating a box.

JOINERY TECHNIQUES

Dovetail joint is a joinery technique used in woodworking to joint wooden furniture parts. It is a sign of a true craftsman. Noted for their resilience to pull apart, these joints between two pieces of wood, enable a tight, strong and long-lasting fit. Dovetail joints require zero mechanical fasteners, making them more attractive. The advantages of the dovetail joint are that it is the strongest of all joints, has a large gluing area, is interlocking, resists being pulled apart, looks attractive, and would hold together even without glue.

The dovetail joint technique probably pre-dates written history. Some of the earliest known examples of the dovetail joint technique are in ancient Egyptian furniture entombed with mummies.

All EVABOX drawers are made using dovetail joints.

STANDARD-Joint

STANDARD / HALF-BLIND DOVETAIL

A half-blind dovetail enables the woodworker to hide the joint from the front end. The oldest and the most durable jointing method is STANDARD joinery – the symbol of excellence in this field of production. Also well known as “Dovetail” joinery.

UNIQUE-Joint

UNIQUE / THROUGH DOVETAIL

Through dovetail joinery method, which is visible on all sides of the drawer. With the step of this connection of 25mm, it is highly reliable and durable.

FINGER-Joint

FINGER 12 / COMB JOINT

Finger 12 jointing method (also known as comb joint), is a woodworking joinery made by cutting a set of complementary, interlocking profiles in two pieces of wood, which are then glued.

UNIQUE-BOLD-Joint

UNIQUE BOLD / THROUGH DOVETAIL

Unique bold jointing method is similar to unique joint but with double step of 50 mm. This is very expressive and distinctive way of joining when combining different types of wood and selected colors.

STANDARD S3/S4/S5

STANDARD S3 / S4 / S5 joinery technique is a progressive development in the furniture industry, as interior designers and furniture manufacturers always aim to make the gap between the cabinet and the drawer as small as possible. The design and technology of this drawer is an innovation, which has been developed by the EVABOX team itself. This new joinery technique is available only in finished drawer construction – drawer Type 1 (no need for extra drawer facade).

WOOD TYPES USED IN THE MANUFACTURE OF DRAWER BOXES

We use different kinds of wood in our production, which include a range of hardwoods, such as: birch, walnut, smoked oak, maple, brown ash, white ash, beech and oak. The trees, from which this hardwood is obtained, tend to be slower growing, meaning the wood usually denser and higher in quality. It is a material of real beauty, colors and because of their condensed, more complex structure, hardwoods generally offer a superior level of strength and durability in comparing with coniferous wood.

Drawer sides can be made from 13,14,15 mm thick wood panel. For bottom we use 6 mm or 9 mm MDF covered from both sides with natural wood veneer.

MAPLE

  • LIGHT
  • EVEN PATTERN
  • EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR PROCESSING

Widespread throughout Europe, America, the Far East. It is a very light, slightly yellowish wood. Often used in contrast to dark wood. A distinction is made between European maple and Canadian maple. Special care is required when drying maple wood, as maple has a tendency to crack.

BEECH

  • HARDWOOD
  • FLEXIBLE
  • DECORATIVE

Beech is most common in Central and Western Europe, most commonly found in mixed forests. Beech wood is moderately heavy, strong and durable. Pink shades, strength and high abrasion resistance are the strongest properties of Beech wood.

ASH BROWN

  • STRONG
  • BRIGHT PATTERN
  • WARM TINT

Brown ash is widespread throughout Europe, grows mainly in mixed forests, Brown ash wood is strong, insensitive, stable and therefore has little shrinkage, similar to oak.

ASH WHITE

  • SOLID
  • BRIGHT PATTERN
  • IMPACT RESISTANT

Ash grows mainly in Central Europe. Light, yellowish and expressively textured wood, difficult to process, low shrinkage, insensitive. Very hard and even slightly stronger wood than oak.

WALNUT

  • LUXURIOUS
  • DURABLE
  • ANNUAL WRINKLES DARK OR WAVY

Walnut is one of the most valuable wood varieties. It is often used to manufacture decorative furniture or furniture parts, and musical instruments. Wood has shiny appearance; heartwood can range from light to dark brown, and sapwood is creamy white. Growth rings are straight or wavy. Walnut wood gets lighter in color over time. Wood is stable, durable and has good shock resistance, but is not as hard as oak.

BIRCH

  • REFUELING
  • MEDIUM DIFFICULT
  • BRIGHT PATTERN, PINK TINT

Light brownish-brown, almost white wood. Bright pattern, pink hue, medium-heavy and strong wood. Birch is one of the most widely used types of wood for furniture. Similar in price to maple or oak.

OAK

  • CLASSICS
  • DURABLE
  • HUMIDITY RESISTANT

Oak is widely distributed in Europe, Asia, and America. It has been used for the manufacture of furniture since ancient times. Color is a beautiful tan, with conspicuous growth rings. Wood is strong, elastic, durable and resistant to external impact. Oak wood undergoes a long drying process and tends to crack in drying, so working oak requires experience and skill.

SMOKED OAK

  • MODERN
  • ELASTIC
  • BRIGHT PATTERN

Ammonia smoke is a wood-finishing process that darkens wood and brings out a grainy wood texture. This process works best on white oak, often called "smoked oak".

ATTENTION! Wood shades may vary in reality.

DRAWER BOXES FINISHING

We use only certificated finishing materials for products, because we care about you and nature.

Lakavimas

VARNISHING

The varnish soaks into the wood, enhances the natural color of the wood and does not mask the the grainy wood texture. Varnished furniture is protected from dirt, sunlight and water. If you want the furniture to be preserved as natural, varnishing is the best technique to use.

VARNISH TINTING

Varnish has long been one of the most valued furniture finishes because of its durability and ease of application. One of its finest attributes is the ability to add a wide assortment of dyes and colorants, so tinting varnish with dye and colorants is the secret to unique and exclusive finishes.

OILING

Oiling helps restore the wood's natural color. Oiled wood acquires an eye-pleasing, mirror-like shine.

TONED OIL

We use oil an appropriate percentage of dye to achieve the colour that is required. The oiled wooden surface „breathes“, preserving the natural structure of the wood, even when the oil that is used is colored. The oil penetrates deeply into the surface of the wood, giving it a shade and highlighting the wood‘s texture.

HOW TO CALCULATE YOUR DRAWER SIZES?

DRAWER WIDTH: X=Z-(2*F)

A – drawer side thickness (mm)

Z – cabinet inner width (mm)

X – drawer width (mm)

F – gap for runners between cabinet wall and drawer

Minimum spacing between cabinet carcass and drawer side is:

  • 8 mm x 2 = 16 mm space when drawer sides thickness is 13 mm.
  • 7 mm x 2 = 14 mm space when drawer sides thickness is 14 mm.
  • 6 mm x 2 = 12 mm space when drawer sides thickness is 15 mm.
